Can I back up web applications, sites, sub-sites, lists, and document libraries from my on-premise MS SharePoint Server?

Yes. IDrive 360’s MS SharePoint backup feature provides a complete solution for your on-premise SharePoint environment, supporting the backup of web applications, sites, sub-sites, lists, document libraries, and individual documents.

How do I back up my on-premise MS SharePoint server?

To back up your on-premise MS SharePoint server,

  1. Sign in to the IDrive 360 desktop application and click 'Server Backup'. A slider menu will appear.
  2. Click 'On-premise MS SharePoint'. The MS SharePoint backup/restore console appears. By default, 'MS SharePoint backup' is selected.
  3. Select 'Online Backup', 'Local Backup', or 'IDrive 360 Express™ Backup'.
    On selecting 'Online Backup', the data will be stored on the IDrive cloud. On selecting 'Local Backup' or 'IDrive 360 Express™ Backup', the data will be stored in the local drive.
  4. Select the websites and applications you want to back up from the list. Specify the local backup location.
  5. Specify the temporary local backup path and click 'Schedule Now'.

    Note: Initiating a local backup automatically creates a ‘.ServerBackup’ folder.

  6. The 'Scheduler’ window appears, where you can schedule the backup for a future date and time or perform an immediate backup of the selected sites and applications.

Can I back up web applications/sites from multiple web-front ends?

Yes. IDrive 360 allows you to back up web applications and sites across multiple web-front ends, providing centralized protection for your SharePoint environment.

Under what name and extension are the backup files of my on-premise MS SharePoint server stored on IDrive® 360?

All backup files of your on-premise MS SharePoint server are stored in the folder named ‘IDSharePointServerBkset’.

Can I restore my sites, sub-sites, lists, and document libraries to different sites?

Yes. IDrive 360’s granular restore feature lets you restore individual items, such as document libraries, folders, or entire sites, either to the original site or to a different site.

How do I restore my on-premise MS SharePoint server?

To restore your on-premise MS SharePoint server,

  1. Sign in to the IDrive 360 desktop application and click 'Restore'.
  2. Select 'Online Restore', 'Local Restore', or 'IDrive 360 Express™ Restore'.
  3. Locate and select the 'IDSharePointBkset' folder in your IDrive 360 account or local drive.

    Note: If using ‘Local Restore’, you can select the required version from the ‘Version’ list.

  4. Click 'Restore Now' to restore the folder to the local computer.
  5. Once restored, click 'Server Backup'. A slider menu appears.
  6. Click 'On-premise MS SharePoint'. The MS SharePoint backup/restore console appears.
  7. Click 'MS SharePoint restore'.
  8. Browse and select the 'IDSharePointBkset' folder restored earlier.
  9. Select the websites you want to restore and click 'Restore Now'.

How do I back up 12, 14, 15, and 16 hive folders of my on-premise MS SharePoint server?

You can manually back up the 12, 14, 15, and 16 hive folders by selecting them from your SharePoint server using IDrive 360. These folders are typically located in the SharePoint installation directory:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\
From there, you can choose the folders 12, 14, 15, and 16 for backup.

Does IDrive® 360’s on-premise MS SharePoint server backup include external dependencies like /_layouts/images/?

No. External dependency files (such as /_layouts/images/) are stored in the SharePoint installation directory:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\IMAGES"
You can manually select these files or folders from this location and back them up to your IDrive 360 account.
